Did you know that our kidneys filter about 50 gallons of blood a day? Although we are all born with two kidneys, we only need one to survive. But to make sure our kidneys don't fail, we need to make sure that we watch out for the signs and symptoms that affect our kidneys. And if affected, it is necessary to know all about Nephrotic syndrome ayurvedic treatment and medicines to be used.
What is Nephrotic Syndrome?
Nephrotic syndrome is a distinct set of symptoms that indicate our kidneys are not functioning properly. Nephrotic syndrome itself is not a disease. The kidneys filter the blood to remove waste products, unnecessary fluids, and salts from the body through the urine. Glomeruli, a filtering unit of the kidney, is responsible for this filtration. Under normal circumstances, protein from the blood does not come out through the urine. However, when the glomeruli is damaged, albumin and other proteins leak into the urine. Nephrotic syndrome is referred to as excessive protein loss.
What Causes Nephrotic Syndrome?
Nephrotic syndrome occurs due to two conditions i.e.
Primary Causes-
The most common cause of nephrotic syndrome is damage to the glomeruli. This damage can be caused by some developmental problems or scar formation in the glomeruli. In some cases, inflammation of the tissues involved in the filtration process causes albumin ( a protein) to leak. Antibodies can get stuck in the area and cause damage and lead to nephrotic syndrome.
Secondary Causes-
There
are many diseases that cause this condition and act as a secondary
cause. But the overall effect on the whole body causes problems because
of these conditions-
- Diabetes- diabetic nephropathy.
- Sjogren’s Syndrome- Immune complex deposition in the kidneys due to Sjogren's syndrome causes this condition.
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease- This condition generally affects many organs and the kidneys can be one of them.
- Some types of cancers can also cause this condition.
- Multiple myeloma.
- Amyloidosis.
- HIV.
- Vasculitis.
- Hepatitis B.
Symptoms of Nephrotic Syndrome

- Edema- Swelling, and inflammation of the face, abdomen, legs, and other body parts occurs in 95% of patients with nephrotic syndrome. This swelling is caused by excessive accumulation of water in the body.
